Description
A Proof of Concept Prototype is an early stage prototype for proving the basic concept of the product.
It rarely functions exactly like the final product, and it will never look like the final product. The goal is to prove the fundamental concept of the product at the lowest possible cost.
When there is no suitable development kit on the market, we should hand assemble the prototype. For high frequency circuits this technique is not applied.
Some of the advantages of a hand assembled prototype are:
• It does not have bad electrical contact problems as in breadboards.
• Low cost. There are no PCB developing and manufacturing costs for the first prototype.
• Speed. The prototype can be hand assembled in a few hours, so we don't have to wait for the PCB manufacturing time.
• Good part of the firmware can be developed and tested using the prototype.
• It's easier to test the hardware. As we use large components, it's a simple task to use scopes and logic analyzers to debug firmware and take measurements. The test points are easier to access.
